Storage volumes must grow as mail stores, mailbox sizes, and user numbers grow. As messaging data grows, EqualLogic PS Series volumes grow online. In addition to instant volume expansion, more physical storage can be added non-disruptively to your SAN, increasing capacity and performance with the EqualLogic SAN’s online load balancing. With advanced thin provisioning, e-mail volumes can be preset to a specific size at volume creation. Physical storage is then automatically allocated from the free storage pool as the e-mail store grows in size. The benefits are simpler management of e-mail volumes, more efficient use of physical storage resources, and the realization of seamless “buy as you grow” storage purchasing.
Streamline e-mail backup and recovery
With the EqualLogic arrays’ built-in snapshot capabilities, clean snapshots of mail stores and logs can be taken instantly and automatically. Any size environment, as well as multi-server deployments, can be instantly reset to a previous snapshot to resume your messaging application from a clean starting point; users don’t wait for data to be physically moved or copied. Snapshots can also be mounted as recovery storage groups for easy mailbox and message recovery. Built-in auto-replication capability enables internally consistent remote copies of messaging data and SAN boot disks.
Optimize service level and costs
The tiering and pooling capabilities of EqualLogic SANs provide automatic or administrator-directed tiering of mail stores and logs. This enables messaging administrators to assign different storage tiers to offer varying levels of storage performance to users. When service level requirements change, messaging administrators can easily move e-mail volumes, as well as other application data, to a new service tier without downtime or disruption.
