In addition to instant volume expansion, more physical storage can be non-disruptively added to the SAN, increasing capacity and performance with online load balancing. With EqualLogic PS Series advanced thin provisioning, database volumes can be preset to a specific size at volume creation. Physical storage is then automatically allocated from the free storage pool as the database grows in size. The benefits are simpler management of database volumes, more efficient use of physical storage resources, and the realization of seamless “buy as you grow” storage purchasing.
Simplify database backup and recovery
With the EqualLogic PS Series’ built-in snapshot capabilities, clean snapshots of databases and logs can be taken instantly and automatically. Any size environment, as well as multi-database deployments, can be instantly reset to a previous snapshot to resume database operations from a clean starting point; users don’t wait for data to be physically moved or copied. Snapshots can also be mounted as recovery storage groups for easy database and log recovery. Auto-replication capability is built into all EqualLogic PS Series arrays and enables internally consistent remote copies of databases and SAN boot disks.
Customize service levels for individual databases
EqualLogic PS Series tiering and pooling capabilities enable automatic or customized tiering of databases and logs. This enables DBAs to assign different storage tiers to offer varying levels of storage performance to multiple databases. If service level requirements change for a database, DBAs can easily move database volumes, as well as other application data, to the appropriate service tier without downtime or disruption.
