Hey Marc, full disk encryption (FDE) is definitely lining up to be one of the key pillars of defense here. And it's not just for drives that are mobile.
The most sensitive data is in the data center, and eventually those drives retire. Are they really fully erased? Do you have to destroy them? FDE makes all of the data go away with one click (delete the password).
That's why Seagate is moving aggressively to apply FDE across their enterprise drives as well as mobile and notebook drives.
I expect before too long FDE will be a must-have for any disk drive or other storage device.
